Johnny dos Santos.jpeg

Mr. Johnny dos Santos, a warm-hearted friend of all those who crossed his path in life. A colleague to many and beloved member of his community.

He passed away on 29 April 2026. Known for his always courteous way of life,  infectious smile, easy laugh and generous spirit, Johnny dos Santos touched the lives of many — from neighbours and former coworkers to the many an aspirant fitness enthusiast and members of the local body building fraternity where he was deeply involved in - he was described as a kind and dependable man, larger-than-life both in presence and in heart.

Johnny worked alongside colleagues in Luderitz and Walvis Bay, earning respect for his strong work ethic and friendly, yet also "get things done" manner.

He loved a good conversation and brightened ordinary days with humour and compassion, yet also with the always present serious tone in the background.

Family meant everything to him, and his devotion to Jo‑Ann, Tanya and Natasha  and his grand children was plain to see in the memories others have shared.

The outpouring of condolences from friends, neighbours and former coworkers reflects how deeply he was loved: “Rest in peace, Johnny,” “Condolences to the family,” and “My heart goes out to you” were common refrains.

He will be sadly missed and remembered for his kindness, his readiness to help, and the warm memories he leaves behind.

It is with profound sadness that the Walvis Bay community but also wider Namibian nation learnt of the passing of Mr. Johnny Juan Davids, the beloved Walvis Bay son, acclaimed Zing star, South African music artist, radio presenter, and sports commentator.

Johnny passed on suddenly of a heart attack on 16 April 2026 at the age of 49 whilst on a routine business visit to Pretoria, South Africa.

Born in Cape Town and raised in Narraville, Walvis Bay, Johnny’s journey was one of remarkable resilience, talent and deep Christian faith.

Adopted by a teacher and raised without knowledge of his biological parents, he candidly shared his inspiring story in his autobiography Boytjie. His big break came in 2003 when he and singing partner Vivian Molauly won the popular kykNET singing competition Zing, launching a successful career in Afrikaans and gospel music that resonated deeply with fans across Namibia and South Africa.

A multi-talented entertainer, Johnny became a familiar and cherished voice on radio through SABC’s RSG, hosting popular shows like OppiRadio and Al Daai Jazz. On television, he shone as an award-winning presenter and hosted programmes including Ysters op die Landgoed.

Sports enthusiasts knew him as a passionate SuperSport commentator, particularly for rugby and cricket where his warmth and insight endeared him to viewers.

Johnny’s strong connection to his Walvis Bay roots remained evident throughout his life. He was preparing to share his testimony at the Mighty Men Conference At Langstrand,

Walvis Bay at the beginning of May 2026 when he passed. He is survived by his wife, Liezel, and their three children.

Johnny Davids will be remembered as a vibrant, faith-driven artist and broadcaster who bridged communities and brought joy through his voice and presence. His legacy of talent, perseverance, and genuine warmth lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Walvis Bay and the broader entertainment world have lost a true star.

Rest in peace, Boytjie.
